Course F.A.Q.

  • Are your classes accessible?

I want all my classes to be as accessible as possible. Unless otherwise noted, they take place on Zoom with automatic closed captioning. You can participate in any way you feel comfortable, whether that means verbally contributing, speaking in the chat, or not speaking at all. Cameras can be on or off. Please reach out to me at cartersainthogan@gmail.com for any requests or inquiries.

  • How do classes work?

Classes are 1.5-2 hours long with a 10-min break at a scheduled interval. Often they involve PowerPoints because I’m obsessed with the art of PowerPoints; if I’m using slides, I will make them available to participants, and try to keep accessible design in mind during their creation (happy to receive feedback on this!). The first hour of most classes is group activity- and conversation-based, while the rest of the time is saved for sharing and/or workshopping student work.

  • What can I share/workshop in class?

Anything you’re working or create that feels relevant! I’ve had students submit their songs, dances, film, quilts-in-progress, short stories, poems, essays, and Instagram accounts as works-in-progress for the sharing/workshop portion of the class.

  • What if I have to miss a class?

To protect the privacy of all participants, I don’t record or make recordings available of full workshops. This may vary with one-off short lectures. If you need to miss a session of an ongoing course, reach out to me at cartersainthogan@gmail.com and I’ll be happy to recap the session for you/provide slides.

  • What if I don't do all the homework?

If you never read or do a thing for any of these classes, you’re good to go. You could also totally overachieve and that would be amazing, too. Each class is a choose-your-own adventure, and it’s always enough that you showed up! :)

  • Do you offer refunds?

Class deposits are non-refundable. Classes dropped within 15 days of the first class are non-refundable, as well.

  • What about sliding scale/payment plans?

I don’t want any student to be turned away for lack of funds, ever! If you can’t afford the full price or need a payment plan, reach out to me at cartersainthogan@gmail.com and we’ll figure something out.
